The Fourth Serbian Congress for Microscopy was held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade on October 11-12, 2010. It was organized by the Serbian Society for Microscopy; Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade; Vinča Institute of Nuclear Science; Siniša Stanković Institute for Biological Research and the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad.

The aim of the 4SCM-2010, was to allow the scientists to exchange information about the most recent results and technical achievements in the development and application of microscopic techniques in materials characterization and biological application in order to foster scientific collaboration and networking.

The Congress featured two plenary and four invited lectures, 21 oral presentations divided into two sections (Materials Science and Natural Science and Biomedicine), and 42 posters.

The representatives of the Institute of Technical Sciences of SASA presented their research results at the 4SCM-2010 Congress with great success: Suzana Filipović received the award for the best oral presentation for Structural analyses of sintered MT and BZT ceramics, authoredby S. Filipović, N. Obradović and V. Pavlović, wheras Dr. Tamara Ivetić was awarded for the best poster presentation (Microstructure development and electrical properties of NiO doped alpha-Fe2O3, authored by T. Ivetić, M. V. Nikolić, P. M. Nikolić, V. Pavlović, O. S. Aleksić).
