Collaboration between the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and the Institute of technical sciences of SASA


Within the framework of the cooperation defined by Cultural, Education and Scientific Agreement signed between the Institute of Technical Sciences of SASA and Pontificia Universidade Catolica Rio de Janeiro, Dr. Lidija Mančić, senior research associate of the Institute of Technical Sciences of SASA was on a six-month research visit to Brazil (September 2009 – March 2010). She worked in the team of Prof. Fernando Rizzo (Department of Material Engineering, PUC-Rio) on the project Mechanism of 1D nanomaterials formation during hydrothermal treatment of Brazilian mineral sand. This is an important contribution to the broadening of joint activities between the two institutions, begun during Dr. Mančić’s first post-doc tenure at PUC-Rio in 2007.

The fundamental and applicative research was focused primarily on the synthesis of TiO2-based nanoparticles with controlled structure, morphology and improved photocatalytic properties, but also on their potential application in different fields of industry. (Nanogavea).
