Prof. Dr. Nenad L. Ignjatović was born on October 12, 1967 in Smederevska Palanka, Serbia. He graduated from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Belgrade in 1994, and completed his M.Sc. studies at the same Faculty in 1996 with the thesis titled Study of the conditions to produce adhesives from soy flour. In 2001, he took his Ph.D. degree at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy with the thesis Synthesis and Designing of the Structure and Properties of Hydroxyapatite-Polylactide Composite Biomaterial. He was elected a Research Associate in 2002 and a Senior Research Associate in 2005. Nenad L. Ignjatović holds the position of Professor at the Medical School of the University of Niš since 2007. Dr. Ignjatović was elected Principal Research Fellow in 2010.
He was a member of the organizing committee of YUCOMAT Conferences between 1997 and 2008; since 2008, he has been a member of the Presidency of the Materials Research Society of Serbia. Between 2002 and 2012, he was the President of the Organizing and Scientific committees of the annual MRS-Serbia young researchers’ conferences "Science and Engineering of New Materials".
While working at the Faculty of Forestry in 1995/96, his research was focused on obtaining wood glue from bio-sources, which resulted in a patent for which he was awarded a gold medal by the Yugoslav Society of Inventors and Innovators in 1997. Since March 1997, until the present, he has been employed at the Institute of Technical Sciences of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts as a researcher in the area of materials science. His research activities have been focused on the development of the relatively new scientific discipline within materials science: biomaterials. He was awarded for the best PhD thesis in 2001 by the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce.
Since 2001 until the present, he has been a visiting lecturer at the Petnica Science Centre on knowledge innovation programmes for young talents in the area of biomaterials, introduced in 2001 as a new research discipline. He was an Academic Visitor at Oxford University, Department of Materials, in 2005. In 2007, he was a member of the ACS Adriatic Delegation of the United States. Based on achieved results in the area of biomaterials, namely in bone tissue reconstruction, he received the Belgrade City Award for natural and engineering sciences in 2008. He was a national expert of bio-nano sciences in the centre of the European Commission (JRC, Italy) in 2012., 2013. and 2014.
He is also the editor of eleven conference proceedings and a co-editor of an international monograph. As an author or coauthor, he published more than 300 bibliographic resources falling into various categories (ISI and non-ISI publications); out of them, 72 can be found in SCOPUS database and they have been cited more than 1000 times (h=16). He is a reviewer for Materials Letters, RSC Advances, Current Drug Delivery Journal, Surface and Coatings Technology, Arabian Journal of Chemistry, The Scientific World Journal, Colloids and Surfaces B, Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, Acta Biomaterialia, Journal of the European Ceramic Society, Processing and Application of Ceramics, Applied Surface Science, Journal of Prosthodontics, Materials Science Forum, Journal of the Serbian Chemical Society, Materials Chemistry and Physics, Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, Archive of Pharmacy, Environmental Engineering and Management Journal, BioMed Research International, Trends in Analytical Chemistry, etc. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the
Nanoscience and Nanometrology, Journal of Applied Chemistry, and Tehnika – Novi materijali (Technichs – New Materials).
Fields of interest: synthesis, characterization and application of biomaterials for bone tissue reconstruction; multifunctional drug delivery systems with target effect, new nanobiomaterials, growth factors.
